It's been a great moment this 2009 music season, to meet and talk to Nobel Laureate Venkatraman Ramakrishanan at the Music Academy. Here's his interview in NDTV Profit and what he had to say about his experience.

Well, as the saying goes, "Make hay while the sun shines". The media is following Venki Ramakrishnan wherever he goes. They would like to get any word from the Nobelist's mouth. It is considered "vEdham". That is how the world turns.
Most respected Sir, Why do you, such a GREAT percussionist, accept a DLitt from the Kerala University when the son of the Education Minister of Kerala is reportedly your student..Adoor, yes.He is our average film maker, a pale replica of the GREAT Ray.
Mammootty. A good actor. Yet one wonders if Marlon Brando was ever
considered for such an honour by
Harvard University!!
Well, Mr. Kumar, the human mind makes many excursions and it is difficult to predict its course for any individual. UKS perhaps thought that it was an additional honor to accept the D.Litt. Why not? So many people are clamoring to get one award or another. Lot of political persuasions are being made on behalf of many individuals who aspire for KalaimAmaNi or the Sangeetha Natak Academy award. This D. Litt is perhaps not a political award although influenced indirectly, as you say. If Kalaignar can add Doctor in front, why not others?
congratulations. One more feather added to your cap. PadmaVibhushan should come to you much earlier.

Hello sir
I would like to contact you
Could you kindly give me your email id
My email id is jsaraf@ultimategurumusic.com
Kindly write back to me when you find time.
This blog is being written by a fan of UKS, and not by UKS himself. The person who writes it should remove "About me" when describing his profile. When you say "about me" then it is has to be in first person. Assuming you write in third person, you should not say "topmost mridangam vidwan" etc. Let others decide that part. Just remove the "about me" in the profile title.
